The October Salt Lake City Family History Library Retreat 2013 is fast approaching. If you have put off registering, the event is fast approaching. The Salt Lake City Family History Library Retreat 2013 will be held on October 28 to November 1, 2013. Accommodations and classes will be held at the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel, 122 West South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84101, just steps away from the Family History Library. If you have never attended a Research Retreat, you might be surprised at this exceptional opportunity. Each day of the Retreat begins with a class such as Negotiating the Family History Library and The FamilySearch Catalog: Key to the Collections. The participants then spend the rest of the days in directed research at the Family History Library for hands-on help with personal research problems. In the evening, There will be another class and after dinner, the participants are free to go back to the Family History Library for more personal research on their own. The Research Professionals teaching the classes and helping with research are the following:
James L. Tanner : Has a B.A. Degree in Spanish, an M.A. Degree in Linguistics from the University of Utah, and a J.D. Degree in Law from Arizona State University. He has 37 years experience as a trial attorney in Arizona. He also has over 30 years experience in genealogical research and is the author of The Guide to FamilySearch Online. He is an avid Blogger and his genealogy blog, Genealogy’s Star is on of the top genealogy blogs in the US. He has been a presenter at a number of Expos and Conferences. He is the former owner of a retail computer business and Apple Macintosh software company. James is the social media coordinator at Family History Expos.
Arlene H. Eakle, Ph.D. : President and founder of The Genealogical Institute, Inc., Dr. Eakle is a professional genealogist with more than 30 yearsâ€™ experience in research, consulting, lecturing, and writing. An expert in tracing families from New York, Southern U.S., British Isles, Switzerland, and parts of Germany, she claims a 96% success rate.
Sharon D. Monson : The founder of ‘GenSearch and more,’ an author, and frequent conference presenter. She has extensive research experience in courthouses, the Family History Library, and repositories spanning 30+ years. Her class presentations cover a wide range of research methods, useful tips, source document locations and unusual resources.
