Sacramento Hosts Northern California Family History Expo June 28-29

Keynote Speaker James L. Tanner

Veteran genealogist, speaker and author James L. Tanner will teach, “Top 10
Techniques: Fishing for Ancestors & Other Persons of Interest,” when he opens the Northern California Family History Expo. The expo is slated for June 28-29 at Crowne Plaza Sacramento Northeast, 5321 Date Avenue.

“Mr. Tanner is a tremendous speaker and he has so much knowledge to share,” Family History Expos
Founder and President Holly T. Hansen said. “His presentation is perfect. People come from all over to hear him.” Tanner has a bachelor’s degree in Spanish, a master’s in Linguistics and a law degree. Despite his many talents and roles, Tanner tends to focus on his love of family history. He has 30 years of experience in genealogical research and wrote The Guide to FamilySearch Online. An avid blogger, Tanner’s “Genealogy’s Star” is one of the top genealogy blogs in the country.

Sheau-yueh Janey Chao Featured at Sacramento Event

The Northern California Family History Expo will feature Asian research specialist Sheau-yueh (Janey) Chao. She is a librarian and Head of Cataloging in the William and Anita Newman Library of Baruch College, City University of New York.

“This is such an exciting opportunity for families with Asian roots,” Hansen said. “The professor is one of the leading Asian researchers in the country.” Chao has a master’s degree in library and information science and a second master’s in computer science from the New York Institute of Technology. She has published extensively in Asian studies, Chinese genealogy, library services to the multilingual and multicultural population and overseas Chinese studies. The professor has published three books including the latest one on Chinese genealogies, In Search of Your Asian Roots: Genealogical Research on Chinese Surnames.

Intel 8086 Architect Presents in Sacramento: Special Appearance by Stephen P. Morse

Stephen P. Morse who is best known for his architectural design of the Intel 8086 (the granddaddy of today’s Pentium processor) is a celebrated family historian and genealogist. His work with Intel sparked the personal computer revolution three decades ago. In addition to his work with Intel, Morse created the One-Step Website for which he received the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Outstanding Contribution Award from the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies, the Award of Merit from the National Genealogical Society, the first ever Excellence Award from the Association of Professional Genealogists, and two awards from Polish Genealogical Societies.

“What a thrill to have such esteemed teachers at this event. I could not have hoped for a better line-up of presenters than we will have in Sacramento this year,” Hansen said.

At-the-door registration for this event will open Friday at 12 p.m. The last class will begin at 7:20 p.m. On Saturday, registration and exhibits will open at 9 a.m. Prize drawings will be held at the close of the event at 4 p.m.

Hansen will close the two-day show with, “Happy Birthday Family History Expos with 10 Grand Prize
Give-aways.”

“We’re going to have some brilliant prizes to give away this year in honor of our birthday,” Hansen said.
